Just to note anyone else wanting to sign up will now need to book their own camp spot!
From “Bowderstone Additional Information.pdf” in the GDrive link at the top of this post:
Please note that there are no mattresses or bedding provided so you will need to bring your own (camping-type self-inflated mattresses and sleeping bags are ideal). Linen is not provided
There doesn’t appear to be an electic kettle. Has anyone got a spare one they could bring?
Hey, is there a plan to book a sat or sun dinner somewhere?
It’s not far from Keswick, but it may be busy.
If we were to, wouldn’t one of the ‘local’ places be better - Langstrath Inn, or Mary Mount Hotel be better, as could negate the need to drive?
Given there are only 2 electric rings and a microwave in the bunkhouse, cooking for 12 is not going to be viable. It may be sensible to bring your own stove if you want to cook…
The eating options in borrowdale are not great. The Langstrath is almost always rammed/fully booked and is also quite far away (like an hours walk). The riverside bar at the Scafell hotel is an option. Have been there before and it’s OK but is first come first served and is still a forty minute walk from the campsite.
I am personally a huge fan of the Keswick chippy (one of the finest in the land) while getting a post climbing beer at the Borrowdale hotel…
Sorry, it isn’t clear from the spreadsheet and various discussions who is definitely driving from London (with space available).
Is there anyone going from central/North London whom I could sign up for a lift with? Thanks!
Ian, I am currently aiming at leaving from Oakwood tube station at 5.30pm and have a space available, which you can take, if that works for you.
@RolandP - do you have any spaces left in your car?
Hi Peter. Many thanks. Why don’t I sign up for a lift with you. I’ll add myself to the spreadsheet.
Hi Omar, all. I am afraid I’m going to have to pull out of this one. I had hoped to get away on Thursday but work has intervened and I won’t be able to escape till latish on Fri and it’s just too much of a squeeze. Apologies to anyone struggling for a lift. NB this means there is a place in the bunkhouse for anyone who wants it.
Sorry to hear Roland
I’ll take your bunkhouse space if I can get a lift.
@Magnus may I come up with you?
I’m going to look into getting a train back
Cheers!
Hi Ian, excellent, welcome aboard. Can you give me your mobile number for ease of communication; Im on 07398718422.
Many thanks, I’ll PM you with my mobile number!
Hi Omar,
Yes, I have 1 space on the way up, as Tilly only needs a lift back to London.
Hey, it seems that I also need a lift back to London now, is there anyone still with spaces?
Amazing Magnus, thanks, may I just confirm what time you’re setting off?
@RolandP I assume you’ve paid for the Hut so I should arrange to transfer you directly?
Cheers
Omar
Given the weather is looking “iffy”, and i’m just based around the corner this week, think i’m going to make a decision on Saturday morning. So if anyone fancies taking my Bunkhouse spot on the Friday night feel free!
Yes thanks Omar, I’ll PM you
Hi all,
Looks like you are all busy sorting lifts, @NickAshton and @NickM have you guys sorted lifts?
Team Camping I have let the campsite know that there will likely be people arriving late, they have advised they will try and give us a spot on the field nearest the entrance gates as to not disturb the rest of the campsite. Please try to be courteous when arriving late, as to not upset the campsite for future years. I will hopefully be around tomorrow afternoon and can swing by the campsite and send the drivers a pin - or whoever is first to arrive (@guyarnold ?) if you can share the location to avoid lost late night campers.
Team Bunkhouse The bunkhouse is very basic, thanks for the reminder on need to bring a mat Dave. There are also a few more BYO items required including toilet roll and bin bags. Can a couple of people who are stopping at a shop pick some up? I will try and get an emergency roll or two but as by public transport will be limited. See below detailed info for the bunkhouse:
A couple of reminders prior to your stay:
Other than the obvious, don’t forget:
1. Sleeping equipment. We recommend camping-type self-inflated mattresses and sleeping bags. Linen is not provided.
2. Sanitary equipment, including toilet roll.
3. Refuse sacks (to take away your rubbish).
4. Wood to burn in the wood-burning stoves.
Key Code:
We have a key-safe around to the left of the entrance. The code is (you then slide down the black catch on the left to access the chamber). The key is an electronic fob, with the decoder to the right of the lock. Touch the decoder with key fob and push the door quite hard to open.
Water:
There is running drinking water supplied to the bunkhouse, but during very cold spells in the winter months this may freeze up. If this is the case you will need to provide your own water supplies.
On Departure:
There is a folder in the bunkhouse that gives a little more information, including what to do on your departure, but most importantly please:
1. Leave the fridge switched off and the door open
2. Ensure all areas are left clean and tidy
3. Ensure all lights are turned off
4. Take all your rubbish and left-over food away with you
5. All shutters/windows and external doors are securely closed and locked
6. Replace the key fob into the external key-safe and ensure the safe is closed and locked
During your visit, in an emergency outside office hours you can contact our Duty Instructor on 07876 788171.
If you have any queries regarding this booking please contact the bookings office on 017687 72255.
Have a great stay!
In regards to a communal meal, getting together would be nice but given limited pub options nearby I haven’t quite got my head around this, I will scope out the options - very open to suggestions!
