Summer Solstice Meet 2022

@mikedlr - can you assist?

Olly good shout on carn barra. I’ve not been there but it looks really good. If I’m feeling brave I’d like to to get on diocese at chair ladder if we end up around there … It was bird banned last time I visited.

Anyone know if there are any access restrictions at the moment? I can’t see any…

According to someone on UKC there is a fulmar nest on the very popular Doorpost at Bosigran…

Gareth needs to socialise Thursday (it’s his club duty, as you know) - so we’re leaving on Friday morning early. I’ve managed to get through to Greg.

Yep bird banned on Bishops Buttress :frowning:

I remember Carn Barra being pretty good. UKC says that I did Crack in the Sky and Ra there 20 years ago and that both routes seem to have fallen down since then.

I’ve been looking for a campsite for Friday night (with the assumption that we won’t make it to the main one) and probably we’ll stay at https://www.lydfordsite.co.uk/ which is just west of Dartmoor. Anyone else have a similar plan for Friday?

Looks like I jinxed it above.

Forecast for Saturday and Sunday now not looking good at all. If it stays like that I’m afraid we won’t be schleping down.

I’m aware that club Traditionalists may still insist upon going. If so, feel free to get the BBQ from me first…

@PaulSagar I’ve noticed that all UK forecasts are lies made up by the TV companies to keep people at home. I developed the policy of going out no matter what and had lots more successful trips since.

@khalidqasrawi we’re thinking of heading to Baggy Point on Friday. Low tide is at about 3pm I think so Friday may be a good for costal cliffs. Where are you going to head to?

Well I’m not driving 6.5 hours down there on the hope the Met Office is wrong!

13-14 hours of fuel usage is also quite pricey if 0 climbing is achieved… :grimacing: could buy a nice new pair of half ropes with that!

Absolutely fair point, and that’s why the TV companies are winning the war on outdoor. BTW, did anyone offer to pick up the BBQ? With three of us in the car I’m not sure it would be easy to fit but we could try if someone could get it to Gareth’s.

You’re welcome to take the BBQ all the way to Cornwall to not use it when it’s pissing down with rain on Saturday night. It can be collected from Walthamstow.

Olly and myself are also TBC depending on the weather I’m afraid. Going to re-assess tomorrow. Will pay for camping spots whatever obvs.

The forecast keeps changing, presumably because this hot spell is going to break but the met office can’t be sure exactly when. My suggestion is to make a decision tomorrow lunchtime.

On current predictions North Wales actually looks like the best bet, so relocating the solstice meet to the Hut - bbq on site! - might be a good compromise.

At any rate, I wouldn’t want to chance driving all the way to Cornwall on a dicey forecast. My experience is that those coastal areas underperform the met office predictions due to it being the first place any bad weather hits on its way in.

I share the forecast and cost concerns on this one.

My preference would still be cornwall if the forecast improves tomorrow, but if not then i agree with Paul that heading to North Wales is a better option, especially as wet weather options are a little more plentiful there. I’ll post here at 1300 tomorrow with a final answer.

If we do choose to change then i’ll apologise in advance to any of those who’ve already made plans in Cornwall on the surrounding days, i can’t however apologise for the british weather.

I spent a week in Cornwall this time last year where the forecast was always supposed to improve ‘tomorrow’ - it did not. Would have settled for being able to see Chair Ladder, let alone climb on it…

If however the meet is going to be in Cornwall, will it be possible to borrow a tent from someone?

I spent four days and it was just awesome! The only thing was we had no car :buuu:

North Wales will be great too
