Peak District Bouldering Meet 2023 - 25/26 Feb

Do have to say that curbar seems to be ‘in fashion’ at the moment and more traffic there than in previous years. Stanage on the other hand has been pretty empty in comparison, with parking available even at midday on a weekend.

Short notice diary has come clear for next weekend so could join and drive from Finsbury Park area.

Is there any accommodation space for ludicrously late comers or need for cars?

Torsten

Unfortunately I had a nasty fall and twisted my ankle last weekend, so regrettably I may have to miss out.

Tilly, given we’re looking at 2 places for accommodation, how many beds are there now? Ideally I’d like to be able to make a bit of a last minute decision in case the ankle heals up, but if it’s already full and there’s a waiting list then I’ll remove myself now.

Sean

Sean, you don’t need your ankle to spot me above the Gorilla Warfare death block

More seriously: I can leave either Friday evening or early Saturday, from Walthamstow. Two spots in the van, if anyone wants a ride.

Weirdly Curbar was super quiet yesterday, not the usual 20 people in the Gorilla pit and another 40 on Trackside, as it has been the last few times. Quite annoying given that I needed spotters and was on my own!

And finally…recent experience has taught me that my skin can generally only handle one day of grit bouldering at a time. So if anyone wants to do some route climbing on the Sunday give me a shout.

Hi All, I’ll try and confirm accommodation tomorrow, been trying to chase confirmation on the additional bunkhouse!

Tilly, I think I can make it too! I’ll be in a camper van so will be ok for accommodation. I will have to bring my dog too. I’m a little nervous about that but I want her to get used to climbing so have to start some time. February might not be the easiest month but hey, if it doesn’t work out I can just take her for a long walk and sit in the pub. Has anyone got experience of taking a dog bouldering in the Peak, specifically? Is there anyone coming who doesn’t like dogs?

Personally I think there should be more dogs in the Peak, more dogs bouldering, and more dogs in the NLMC. More dogs.

Oooh, very excited to have a dog with us

I’m a bit allergic, but fine outside!
Just need to resist the urge to cuddle them

Or to fall on them

OK good to know, Sarah.

Morning Tilly,

Thanks for organising the trip this weekend - especially when you can’t make it! Any idea if the extra beds have materialised? No worries at all if not obviously - just conscious should finalise travel plans etc.

Torsten

Apologies for the delay, not the smoothest of booking processes, finally have got it all confirmed.

There is confirmed bed space for 20 (14 in the Byre and 6 in Hayloft), so just about room for everyone signed up, but that does mean we are at capacity (including the 4 beds in the living area).

Directions here: Thorpe Farm Bunkhouses Google Maps (warning the road in previous years was very potholey!)

@Sean sorry to hear about your ankle. Do you have an update on whether you think you’ll likely be joining, there is currently space for you.

I would like to confirm numbers mainly so I can divvy up the bunkhouse costs and request payments - as feeling rather light in the pocket!

Curry is booked at 7.30pm on Sat night at Maazi in Hathersage (Hathersage - Maazi). Incase it is required, please bring cash for a tip. Currently booked for 18, but will increase to 21.

Enjoy the weekend all!

Brilliant, thanks so much Tilly!

Wrap up warm everyone, it’s gonna be chilly

Which means primo friction :ok_hand:t2:

Unfortunately I’m almost certainly going to have to miss out. Ankle is still a bit swollen and ligaments feel pretty weak, so can’t imagine jumping on mats is going to do me any favours.

Forecast is for sleet so take an extra jumper and umbrella

Thanks Tilly that’s great. Let us know what we owe you.

And sleet showers are a lot better than drizzle so the glass half full amongst us can take that as a win…
