Ukraine donation drive at the Castle this weekend

Hi everyone

Hope you don’t mind me highlighting this to the Club…

The Castle is teaming up with DMM to help gather specialist supplies for Ukrainian refugees. They are collecting donations this weekend which will be collected and transported by DMM on Monday.

Collection buckets will be outside the Castle Climbing Centre reception. Please check the request list below before donating. They are not accepting general clothing.

  • Sleeping bags
  • Sleeping mats
  • Bivi bags and survival blankets
  • First aid kits
  • Head torches
  • Warm socks (preferably as new as possible)
  • Warm gloves
  • Pre-packed camping food / ration packs

@Manchi - Thanks for flagging this, Jo and I still have another week at least of self isolating.

Will look at cash donation options instead :+1:

Mentioned in the Guardian, DEC - are a group of charities that have come together for this, UK government is matching to a £20 million cap and the can claim gift aid if you are a UK taxpayer.

Thanks for flagging this up Manchi.
Keep us posted of they do another collection. I missed this

Thanks. Went there last weekend and deposited some gear. Thanks Manchi. Allen Bordoley

Good article in the Times the other day on ways to help with regard to Ukraine including input from those involved in disaster management. Includes suggestions of the “best” charities to consider. Plenty of other info out there I know - just one reference point.

Copied to the enclosed lest of interest to anyone.

Note commentary on the vulnerability of some donation channels to scamming eg Etsy, Airbnb etc.
