If you’ve not been before it’s a great chance to meet up and get the properties looking good and running well for the coming months. You don’t need any special skills. There will be jobs for everyone.
Dates: 21st 22nd March ( NOT 28th - 29th as previously advertised)
What we are doing: Besides the the usual maintenance work, I would (finally!) like to finish the work on the drying room improvements. This involves putting a new drain to the outside so that we don’t have to empty it by hand.
Cleaning out the moss, repainting and possibly a bit of repointing on the west wall of the cottage.
Finishing the repairs on the doorframes of the barn.
As usual the club will be providing breakfast and a communal meal on Saturday evening to reward is for all the hard work. Bring food for lunches though.
Bring climbing gear in case we get a chance to climb when the work is done.
Hi John, unfortunately can’t make the new dates. I was planning to mount the new shower riser from under the stairs into shower 1 as I accidentally broke the head holder a few months ago. Didn’t get around to it in January visit. Also, the spares from the old bracket in shower 1 can be used to fix the lose bracket in shower 2.
Also, Mike suggested raising the height of both the brackets if possible. Perhaps mounting a wooden batten or frame on top of the dividing walls to gain fixing height.
Tools needed:
~6mm ceramic drill bit, masking tape to help start the holes, a few red rawl plugs and 4x40mm screws, and some white silicone to fill any old unused holes.
At some point I’d be keen to have a go of regrouting and sealing the showers to get rid of the mould. Maybe autumn working meet.
Unless John sees a problem with the following, my aim will be to try to finish off the drying room by making water flow from the dehumidifier out of the room, probably to the outside (any other ideas appreciated). If there’s no other plan, that means drilling through the stone wall to the outside. Last time I did that with Roman using a hammer drill and masonry bits which I think @Roman brought with him. If there’s someone on the trip that could help with the work or equipment, that would be good.
Yeah, I’m sure you’re already aware, but definitely needs to be a heavy duty, slow SDS rotary hammer, not just a hammer drill which would just burn out or blunt the drill bit
Does anyone going on the working meet next weekend have capacity to receive delivery and then bring to the cottage, a compost bin I am planning on buying?
it is flat- pack so should fit in a reasonable sized car, but I am in central London working all next week and therefore can’t be at home to receive it.
